Our Back in Motion series continues with Gemma Rose Breger, stylist and co-founder of This is Mothership.
Known for her effortless approach to fashion and her instinctive eye for detail, Gemma finds inspiration everywhere — from Pinterest scrolls to street walks. Her September perspective is about staying open: to rhythm, to detail, and to the spark of creativity that comes when you least expect it.
Go-to back to work ritual
“I’m a visual gal through and through. After a break or time off I love nothing more than looking at EVERYTHING for inspiration and to get my creative mind rolling. Whether it’s a Pinterest scroll, or just walking the streets, there is inspiration all over — you just have to look hard enough.”
If September were a garment
“A leather jacket. Perfect for when it’s not too warm, and not too cold. It must be oversized and relaxed, of course.”
A piece that instantly elevates your look
“Jewellery. Jeans & a t-shirt is just jeans and a t-shirt. Add some jewellery and it’s officially classed as a styled outfit. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy — a vintage piece from a car boot, or a necklace you’ve grabbed at the supermarket while picking up milk — they all give the same effect.”
Song that motivates you right now
“Follow the Sun by Xavier Rudd. Always makes me feel good, and I can feel the sun when I listen to it.”
Inbox or outfit first?
“A quick inbox scroll as soon as I wake up — I know, really unhealthy. A habit I’ve tried to break for years, but I like doing it when my house is quiet, and 6:30am is the only time that happens!”
