When I was a little girl visiting my family farm in Kwa-Zulu Natal, I had a secret ritual. I’d sneak into my grandmother’s closet.

Cynthia’s closet was a portal to her extraordinary life. Silk blouses scented with her perfume, fur coats commissioned from London (though hilariously impractical in humid Ethekwini), and items collected from her trips to NYC, Europe, and beyond.

Each piece told a story, not just about her style but about the adventures she’d lived, the people she’d met, and the dreams she’d chased. For me, it was more than a closet. It was my Narnia, a magical space that made me dream of faraway lands where anything felt possible.

Cynthia taught me the generational impact of clothing. These aren’t just garments; they’re stories, memories, and pieces of history that shaped her life—and, in turn, mine.
